SPENCE, Mrs Valerie Queensland,
Dogs have always been a part of Val's life. Initially she grew up with working dogs on her parent's property. In 1976 she acquired her first English Springer Spaniel. Encouraged by the breeder she joined the Queensland Dog World and became part of the show scene. The following year she acquired a Dalmatian, a breed she has always admired. Since then she has successfully shown English Springer Spaniels and Dalmatians, both breeds having won multiple Best In Show and many Royal Show Challenges. Val no longer breeds, devoting that time to enjoy the privilege and pleasure of judging when the opportunity arises. She has judged extensively in Australia and New Zealand, both at Speciality and All Breeds Championship shows. Throughout her long association with the dog world Val has worked in various positions for several clubs. At present she is on the Conformation Judges Sub-Committee and was, for a number of years, coordinator for the Non-Sporting Group for the Judges Training Scheme. She is a Life Member and also President of the Ladies Kennel Association of Queensland. Recently she has been nominated for two more Life Memberships and still continues to be very active in club work.
