Originally from England, Bill has spent the previous forty years in British Columbia, Canada. Bill bred Bullmastiffs under the Shayla prefix for thirty years, going through the alphabet in champions and again with litter names. He bred the first Bullmastiff to ever win both the American and Canadian Bullmastiff National Specialty, plus has written two books on the breed. The first was the first of its kind for 60 years, and the second became the best selling Bullmastiff book in the world. Bill was proud to judge 170 Bullmastiffs at the Welsh and West of England show in 1996 Bill is licensed in both Canada and Australia to judge Terriers, Gundogs, Hounds, Utility and Working breeds, plus Best in Show in many countries who allow judges with more than four groups to judge Best in Show. He was President of the Bullmastiff Fanciers of Canada twice, and has acted as lecturer on the Bullmastiff breed in many countries - having judged in England (twice), Wales, Canada, U.S.A., Finland (twice), Sweden, Malta, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand (twice). His other breeds have included Belgian Laekens under the Springwood prefix, Border Terriers under the Brookhill prefix, and with his wife, Standard Wirehaired Dachshunds under the Springwood prefix. Over the years, Bill's aspiration has been to have the privilege of judging the Bullmastiffs at Crufts. Bill is kept busy judging all around Australia and New Zealand and is reputed to be brutally honest and knowledgeable in his judging.
